On March 20, HB 1274, the Fiber Crop Development Act, was killed by the House Appropriations Committee. Sponsored by newly elected Republican representatives, the bill would have allowed Colorado State University to plant two five-acre crops in 1997, four ten-acre crops in 1999, and then open it up for Colorado farmers to get into the business by the year 2000.
