Hemp facts and links related to Portugal:

In the course of studies on Hemp it has come to HempCyberFarm's attention what crucial and historical role Portugal has played. Portugal is one of the first Nations of Europe to sail the seas in search for gold to feed the expansion of their (h)empire. HempCyberFarm came to the full realization, that for thousands of years, until synthetic fibers were developed early this century, ships were dependent on Hemp for many uses to be seaworthy. Hemp was/is the only fiber to withstand salt water and strong winds for; sails, ropes, clothing, plugging holes in the hull, etc.

If it wasn't for Hemp there could have never been a expansion of Europe to dominate the rest of the world, let alone the ‘discovery’ “India” or “America.”

Think about the above for a second, especially Americans! This plant Hemp has been so instrumental in the discovery and exploitation of the USA, Mexico and Canada. If we had to wait for synthetic fibers to make ships seaworthy America would have been discovered only 80 years ago!

Portugal has been sailing to discover the world since the early 1300's. It was crucial to the expansion that Hemp was planted everywhere they went so that their ships could be repaired. In particular it is said that Portugal is responsible for planting Hemp in India around 1450. In general it is believed that Portugal was instrumental in the spread of this plant.

According to sources Hemp arrived in Africa by stray Egyptian soldiers in the era before Christ.
