PLEASE NOTE:
The 1998 List of Approved Cultivars is amended, to include all varieties on the current OECD list.
Secuieni 1 and Irene have been included in the amended list. Fasamo and Zolotonosha 15 have also been added to the list.
Additional testing requirements will be imposed as a condition of licensing in 1998 for the varieties Secuieni 1 and Irene, due to the existence of performance data for these varieties indicating that they can exceed the 0.3% THC level when grown under Canadian conditions. In addition, Health Canada will treat the crops from these two varieties as a priority for monitoring.
Varieties that are found to exceed the 0.3% limit for THC may be subject to immediate harvest. Stalks from plants harvested under these conditions may be used for fibre.
Varieties which exceed 0.3% THC may be removed from the list next year.
The List of Approved Cultivars applies to all of Canada and no varieties are exempt from routine testing as outlined in the Industrial Hemp Technical Manual.
*Industrial-Hemp has no psychoactive properties following definition of the European Economic Community (EEC); THC content is less than 0.3%. In general, low THC-seed varieties without psychoactive properties are those that have a THC content of less than 1%. (See also No-THC Hemp-seed.) THC= Delta-9 TetraHydroCannabinol.
